Life inspires me to create and generate emotions.
Rosina Gil is a professional dancer, currently performing as the Principal Dancer at National Ballet of Uruguay (BNS). She starred as a feature character in Cirque du Soleil’s VOLTA, a production that toured internationally. Her career has led her to work in Spain, Brazil, the United States, Paraguay and Uruguay as a dancer, choreographer and director. Her latest creation is VARADA, a work she wrote, directed, choreographed and starred in. Rosina has also collaborated with award-winning Uruguayan rock band NTVG as a choreographer and dancer.
When I carry out a project, I always ask myself what impact will it have in the person who sees it and in myself. I intend it to change me, transform me and if possible, to heal me too.
Creations
VARADA is a dance-theater play, born in times of confinement, of an imposed pause, of reflection and reconfiguration, contextualized in Montevideo 2020.
Eight characters locked in their homes describe their reality and feelings through their moves. Dance is all over the circumstances, beyond the mind as a cure, like an inadvertent dialect of the unconscious. The search of hope, like a necessity of survival.
Premiered in September 2021 at Maccio Theater, San José in Uruguay.
In those days of isolation I saw myself dancing involuntarily without asking myself: my body danced in the kitchen, in the bedroom, in the living room, in the bathroom. I took over the stages of my house. This inspired me to create this work and show that what makes our soul vibrate is much more powerful than the reason or the violence that generates fear in our minds. The characters, warriors of the beautiful, lash out against that violence. It is not that they do not feel uncertainty or anxiety, it is that their dance saves them or perhaps evades them from reality. Whatever it is, we don't judge them, we just celebrate it.

Mi Ausencia
In 2021 I had the opportunity to work as a creative and choreographer in the videoclip for the song "Mi ausencia" by NTVG, one of the most important Uruguayan rock bands in Latin America. In the video I am also co-starring with the acclaimed dancer Julio Bocca. Being able to capture my ideas both visually and choreographically was an enriching experience in which I could begin to see my potential for this type of projects. I was able to contribute with my knowledge in classical and contemporary dance and also bring the circus vision, with the use of harnesses. This opportunity came right after going through several paths in my professional career, where all those experiences converged, generating a high-quality product.
Awarded Best Video Clip of the Year at the Graffiti Awards, as well as at the Festival Detour.
Directed by Damnland (Ale Damiani & Oliver Lee Garland).
Based on this experience NTVG itself hires me to perform a live concert for 20,000 people, in Centenario Stadium, this time accompanied by more dancers.
Rufián
The song by EMI (NTVG) is accompanied by a videoclip directed and produced by Oliver Lee Garland. I worked as a choreographer helping the lead singer loosen up through the body and dance alongside other dancers to accomplish the audiovisual concept of Santiago Vecino that immerses EMI in a world of oriental fantasy and video games with unreal characters, lots of humor and dancing.
Amanda
On the centenary of the birth of Amanda Berenguer, a Uruguayan poet, the five prima ballerinas at BNS evoke her poems, narrated by different actresses.
In this little solo I was inspired by the poem "Filoso", read by Pelusa Vidal. Translating her words through my body was a one-way trip since afterwards it inspired me to continue creating works.
MUECA
The experience of working at Cirque du Soleil with acrobats made me very curious. To be able to face the dance from other perspectives and empower the acrobats to discover new limits in their bodies, to connect with a different type of delicacy and coordination, was a fascinating work in which everyone reacted wonderfully. And to be able to perform it on the big top stage was a dream.
